FIOFA is a new film academy, situated in Ohrid. It continues in the long tradition of the Prague Film and TV School (FAMU), the fifth oldest film school in the world. FAMU’s graduates include many influential filmmakers and scriptwriters, many known within international context as Oscar winners or laureates of international film festivals, e.g. Milos Forman, Emir Kusturica, Rajko Grlić, Agniezska Holland and many others. The FIOFA is the common project of FAMU, Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, based on agreements, signed by the rectors of AMU Ivo Mathe and Jan Hančil and the Prime minister of Macedonia Mr. Nikola Gruevski. The project makes part of the long term visions of AMU and FAMU for Ohrids Academy. The study program of FIOFA is based on the long tradition of FAMU and is tailored especially for this institution. All courses are guaranteed by FAMU teachers.
Studies in Ohrid
Studying at the Film Academy means also living the student life in the wonderful city of Ohrid. It is located southwest of Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, flavoured with the taste of the past centuries, proud of its cultural heritage and unique lake, both belonging to the UNESCO´s World Natural and Cultural Heritage. Ohrid offers students cultural and sport opportunities. It is full of churches and chapels built in the long period between 9th and 19th century and is rich in picturesque houses and monuments. Beautiful exteriors of the city and the unique Galichica national park situated in its vicinity makes Ohrid a perfect place to study cinema. Have you received a BA in cinema? Or a BA in another field and are able to prove your filmmaking talents are on par with a BA in cinema? Here you are – a three-year master’s degree program.
The three-year follow-up master´s degree program FILM AND TELEVISION is an intensive hands-on and theoretical preparation from the very beginning. The program is divided into several specializations: Screenwriting, Creative Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Sound & Editing Postproduction. Each discipline follows a specific curriculum. The number of students will be intentionally low, while the profile of the offered specialization subjects guarantees a personalized approach to every single student. The three-year master´s degree program for bachelor graduates is based on the creative collaboration among students with the active role of teachers in screenwriting, producing and dramaturgy, directing, film professions (camera, sound, editing), acting, set design and light design (film, theater, cultural events, site specific projects).
All lectures and workshops will be conducted in English, which facilitates the involvement of students and teachers from different countries. For applicants the B2 level of English is requested.
